Pity and Empathy for Antigone
According to Aristotle, "pity is aroused by unmerited misfortune, fear by the misfortune of a man [or woman] like ourselves." My empathy and pity goes out to Antigone, rather than Creon. Antigone a is a young woman who values family over state laws. Even though Polynices was a traitor, she buried him all because she is loyal, caring, and claims that it was her religion that made her bury her brother. Living in a patriarchal society, it is tough for women to get their word out. Antigone tries very hard to get her feminist opinions out even if others do not agree. Despite the laws, Antigone does what she believes is right with no fear. She rightfully admits to the fact that she broke the law and is up for the challenges to come for burying her brother. The main reason that I have empathy for Antigone is that she is a feminist, puts family first, and does not allow others to put her down.
