Fly High or Don't Fly at All.

The sentry in Antigone, describes her in many different ways using one metaphor. The governing metaphor in this passage is comparing Antigone to a bird. This reveals a lot about Antigone's personality and characteristics. For example, the Sentry says "...like a bird come back to an empty nest..she bursts into a long, shattering wail.." The quote shows us that Antigone is protective over their loved ones, just as birds are to their young. This moment is significant to Antigone's character development because the Sentry describes her personality through comparing her to a bird. The passage is also significant to the development of themes in the play because the metaphor portrays one of the underlying messages of the book, which is to choose between what is morally right, and what is against the law.

  1. I really like your title.
I'm confused about how the bird metaphor specifically helps to develop the theme you mention, however (to choose between what is morally right, and what is against the law).
