My Sympathy for Creon

The character that makes me feel more pity and fear out of Antigone and Creon is Creon. Creon makes me feel pity and fear because the role of his character is trained and forced to put those traits upon the audience. He is forced to rule over a city that was apart of the tragic setting with a plague and a corrupt justice system. The audience can also decipher that he is confused about his priorities when he can;t decide over the law, or his son. But the trait I find most sympathy for in Creon is his sense of justice. His sense of justice hampers his other instincts such as his instinct of judgment; he is always forced to persecute someone according to the law no matter what there situation. This flaw of Creon makes him very vulnerable because it also creates conflicts of interests between the family, and the throne. It makes the audience believe that his character is the bad guy, but with his role as the king in a doomed society, there is no other role that he can play. Antigone also had the role of a tragic character, but she had choices within her role, she didn't always have to make the decision she made.
