SCR Sentry Passage
In this passage, the Sentry describes Antigone as someone who is weak. In this passage, he stated," We interrogated her, charging her with offenses past and present...it made me ache and laugh in the same breath." this shows the lack of respect that the Sentry has for Antigone. But he also discusses that it hurt him to bring down such a close friend. To the Sentry, he does whatever is morally correct no matter the consequences or pain that follows. The governing metaphor in this paragraph was," ...she cried a sharp, piercing cry, like a bird come back to an empty nest, peering into its bed, and all babies gone..." This shows that Antigone is strong on the outside, not showing pain around others to represent strength, while she is weak on the inside. She proves to be vulnerable we cries in front of the guards even though she knows what she was getting into. This is important to the development of her character because it also shows the beginning of her downfall. This is when the trait of her being a tragic hero appears and the tragic plot showing her full weakness in a situation of higher proportion and not just siting in her room and planning to bury a body.
