Sentry and Antigone
"...like a bird coming back to an empty nest peering into its bed, and all the babies gone,"(Sophocles 80). The governing metaphor in the passage is the idea that Antigone is a bird and Polynices and Eteocles are her baby birds. The idea that Antigone is a bird reveals the fact that she just like a mother. She is very protective of her value and respect to her family. This metaphor also reveals the idea that Antigone is a a free-spirited bird that can fly free of Creon's rule and a patriarchal society. This idea is very important to the play and character development because it shows what she values and how she does not care what others think and believes in feminism.
