The metaphor in the passage relates Antigone to a bird. The first mention is in lines 471-472, "like a bird come back to an empty nest, peering into its bed, and all the babies gone". Another reference is "closed in on the kill like hunters."(Sophocles 81). In this case Antigone is "being hunted" by the sentry. This metaphor of Antigone being a bird is showing the fact that she is a free spirit/mind, and now she is captured. Antigone's character develops by continuing on her journey as a tragic hero. Antigone has now accomplished being responsible for her own fate. The theme in this passage is law vs. loyalty. this shown when Antigone sees her brothers body bare and screams. She doesn’t scream for the fact she got caught but because someone dishonoured her brother and she is horrified. She then proves she is guilty as she begins to rebury the body in front of the people who are going to turn her in and punish her, with out any worry as to what her punishment might be. In this passage Antigone and the plot continue on in a tragic story.
