Sentry Speech Response

The speech by Sentry has a definite metaphor. This metaphor is comparing Antigone to a bird. In his speech, Sentry states, "We saw the girl! She let out a sharp, piercing cry, like a bird come back to an empty nest...(Line 470)." This metaphor reveals a couple of things about Antigone's beliefs and character. It reveals that, just like a bird, she is protective of her family. It also reveals that she is free-spirited like a bird, who gets to fly free. She did what she wanted instead of bowing down to Creon's rule. This is quite an important moment in her development due to the fact that it really shows off what she values most, and that she doesn't care what people think about it. But this theme/metaphor is also important because it shows that she's being hunted down by the followers of Creon, as if hunters were hunting a bird, yet she still holds her ground.
