The typical women

Antigone and Ismene are two very different characters. Antigone subverts her typical role as a women by being very strong headed and standing up for feminism. Ismene on the other hand stays quite and goes along with men's orders. She follows along with patriarchy idea. Most women so far seem to follow this idea and the men follow the idea they are better than the women. In Anthem The Golden One follows more with patriarchy because she always follows along with what Equality says. I believe this makes her weak because she needs Equality to make a decisions and is not independent. This could change after she is more comfortable with having freedom. Equality and The Golden One both take on the stereotypical gender roles because Equality is in charge and The Golden One follows along through out the whole book. Katniss is the opposite because she is not afraid to stand up and be a leader no matter if it is for her family or a group of people. She is also very strong because she went through the torture of the games twice and was able to handle incredible amounts of emotional stress. The men in The Hunger Games follow the stereotypical role by acting strong and doing manly jobs. The women in The Hunger Games have a blurry line because most women such as Katniss' mom follow the stereotypical role of being housewives and being weak. Then certain women such as Rue stand up and do something very brave. This breaks the stereotypical role of women. In today's society the stereotypical roles are not the common role anymore so it is interesting to analyze these roles.
