Female Character Stereotypes: Antigone vs. Ismene
Antigone is very courageous, generous/loyal, determined/cunning, family-oriented, and confident. She has a fiery personality. Overall, she is just not the average stereotypical female. On the other hand, Ismene is very obedient/respectful, responsible, poised, intelligent, calm, and graceful. She has a very original personality as a girl. Overall, she is the exact stereotypical female in terms of personality. Antigone is an individual who is a mere and obvious reflection of Katniss from the Hunger Games: the personality of the protagonist/hero who ends up being female. This is not a pretty common personality to possess and it can be good to have. The sisters are both 2 very different individuals. The point is: not everyone is the same and it could be a good thing or a bad thing in any case whether it is stereotypical or not. In the Hunger Games, the people who live there are expected to act a certain way. They must be brave and strong for their country when forced to fight to the death just for the entertainment of the Capital. In Anthem, the people who live there are also expected to act a certain way. They must show no anger for the laws of their society and do as they are told to do when it comes to employment, where to go and where not to go, and many other dystopian characteristics. They are forced to live in a world where there is no love, joy, liberty, passion, or hope. Both the Hunger Games and Anthem are very dystopian whereas Antigone is not as much dystopian, but instead is based off patriarchy and restricts or prohibits feminism.
