In The Taming of the Shrew many different topics and ideas unveil themselves through out the play while a salient theme of the power of men over women reveals itself through Petruchio and Baptista. Baptista Minola demonstrates his power by postponing the marriage of Bianca until someone takes Kate away. In doing this, Bianca, as well as her suitors, must wait to achieve true love and marriage. The main depiction of this theme in the play emerges from Petruchio and his actions towards Katherine after their marriage. In the sun and moon scene on the way to Padau, he forces Kate to agree with him even when his logic is quite impractical. But, by doing this, he demonstrates his power over her and eventually "tames" her. This relates to the power that the Capital has on its districts in The Hunger Games. The Capital forces the districts to believe that the Hunger Games is a way to honor those lost in the wars but really it is just a way to demostrate the power that the Capital has over its people.
