How to Tame your Shrew
In The Taming Of The Shrew, by Shakespeare a major theme of the text is: Women should give power to their husband, and are meant to be controled by the husband. Shakespeare shows this in the general feel of the play, and especially in Kate's final speech and the contest of the wives. When the widdow and Bianca do not come at thier husband's command, but the "shrew" Kate does, then it is displayed how the husbands feel about their wives. During Kates final speech at the end of the play, she states "thy husband is thy lord, thy life, thy keeper... such duty as the subject owes to the prince, even such a woman oweth to her husband." this statement shows that shakespeare meant this to be a theme. When the text is Juxtaposed with annother text, Antigone, the difference is large. Antigone's theme is more of a: Woman can have power to change the makups of entire countries. This theme contrsts with the Taming of the Shrew theme because it gives power to women instead of taking it from them. The themes are similiar because they both reflect on women compared to men. The Taming of the Shrew's theme takes power from the women in the story, showing the feeling toward women at the period in history.

A story, or not A story?
In Li-Young Li's "A Story", the author uses foreshadowing and irony to develop the tension of the story, that the father cannot think of a new story for his young son, and doen't want to dissapoint him. The use of Irony in the story begins in the second stanza, when the poem says "In a room full of books, in a world full of stories, he can recall not one...". The ironic fact that the father cannot think of a single story, and doesn't want to dissapoint the boy by not having a story, while in a rooms full of stories he could tell, supports the tension because the father would feel like dissapointing the boy if he were to look for a new story. Foreshadowing is used because of the father's dread of not being able to think of a story, imagining "the day this boy will go. Hear the alligator story! the angel story once more! You love the spider story. you laugh at the spider. let me tell it! But the boy is packing his shirts". The father dreads that his dissapointment will make the boy grow up faster and leave him. The father doesn't want in any way to dissapoint his young son with a repeated story, or to have to look for a story, and so he finishes at a stalemate, being unable to think of one.

Getting Started
Hello!
This is Mrs. Hendricks, your awesome English teacher. Today I want to introduce you to our very own class blog. You have a few assignments to complete while we're in the computer lab today. I'm going to provide instructions for you right here in this post. Eventually, you'll be able to create and publish your own blog posts for everyone in the class to read. Before we get started on that, here are a few tips for blogging etiquette.
1. Always sign your name at the end of every single post!
2. Remember that this is an academic blog. You should be appropriate at all times. Please proof your writing before posting. Your writing should reflect your best academic effort. This isn't like texting your friends or writing on Facebook. It should be more formal.
3. Be kind and encouraging of your classmates. Engage in helpful and constructive discussions.
4. Remember that this blog is a public space. Do not write anything that you don't want everyone in our class to know about.
5. Be creative, and have fun! This is your space. It's an electronic extension of our classroom. It should reflect your personalities, opinions, and creativity. Happy blogging.
TODAY'S ASSIGNMENT:There are a few parts to today's assignment. Please respond to the writing portion in a Word document which you will email to me before you leave today. My email address is the following: chendricks3@cherrycreekschools.org.
